As part of a holistic approach to student development, the Office of Student Health and Wellness is responsible for coordinating the physical, mental, and wellness lifestyle of our students, providing social and support services to our students and the Chatham community. All students have access to the services and resources of the Counseling Center, Student Health Services, and a variety of educational programs in health and wellness for the campus community. Students in crisis can walk into the Counseling Center without an appointment during our open hours: Mondays-Fridays, 9:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.–5 p.m.. Please note we’re closed on university holidays, in evenings, on weekends, and over the 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. lunch hour. After hours and on weekends, students can contact their Resident Assistant or call Campus Public Safety at 412-365-1111.

College life and juggling new responsibilities can feel overwhelming at times. That’s why Chatham has Cougars Care—an online system for directing students (and those supporting them) to resources that can help manage mental and physical wellness, life stressors, academic challenges, and navigating college in general.
Our mental health professionals at the Counseling Center offer a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space available to all registered students during the academic semesters at no charge. We offer initial concise appointments, individual therapy, support groups, crisis appointments, and outreach programs for classes and groups.

Chatham's Counseling Center, in partnership with Independence Health System, hosts a doctoral internship in health service psychology for doctoral psychology students. By merging our resources and opportunities, we are able to provide a unique clinical experience for doctoral interns.

Student Health Services on the Shadyside Campus can be reached at 412-365-1714 and is open during the academic year from Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. (first appointment is 8:30 a.m.; last appointment is 3:00 p.m.). Services provided include basic first aid intervention, illness and injury assessment, and starter doses of over-the-counter medication and is free for all full-time Chatham students.
For any after-hours or urgent care needs, students are shuttled to the nearby UPMC Urgent Care of Shadyside to be treated. Students must use their own insurance to pay for treatment at UPMC Urgent Care. Students that require on-going maintenance care can be referred to numerous physicians in the neighboring area.
